Benjamin Leasure (AKA Lasher), the grandson of Abraham Le Sueur from the Alsace region in eastern France who migrated from the area near Basel Switzerland in to the US in 1754, Benjamin was born 1760 at the Sewickley settlement in Sewickley Twp. Westmoreland County Pennsylvania, to George and Catherine (Wilson) Leasure. He was a continental revolutionary soldier who ended up settling in what is now Washington Township, Armstrong County around 1800, and he was among the pioneers in that region. When Benjamin Leasure and his cousin moved into Armstrong and Butler Counties in 1800 they came with the same name. It wasn't until after 1830 that the name Lasher appears in these two counties. Benjamin's original stone in 1847 said Lasher, however a replacement Government stone says Leasure. (This being the name which he served under during the Revolutionary War) The reason for the name change is uncertain, but It is suspected they wanted to feel more of Germanic descent, especially with all the Bausser, Bowser, Frick people living around them. He owned about four hundred acres of land and there he passed the remainder of his life. He was married Sarah Wolf about 1804 and they had 6 children (a) George Daniel and Sarah (Croyle) Lasher of Sugar Creek Twp. Armstrong Co., Pa (b) Abraham and Martha J "Margaret" (Gould) Lasher of Sugar Creek Twp. Armstrong Co., Pa (c) Matilda (Lasher) and Mr. Best (d) Catherine (Lasher) and Hugh Frazier Hooks of East Franklin Twp. Armstrong Co., Pa. (e) Charlotte (Lasher) and Allen Hooks of Adel, Dallas Co., Ia. (f) Hannah W (Leasure) alias Hannah W Mullens. Note: Although every census after 1800 lists his and her decedents as Leasure, Sarah and all their children are buried under the Lasher name.
